Jim Cantore- the Man, the Myth, the weather vane for the Gulf Coast

The major difference between those of us on the Gulf Coast and those people on the Atlantic Coast (and I’m looking right at you, Hilton Beach, North Carolina!) is this:

Jim Cantore shows up in your neighborhood.

If you’re from the Gulf Coast, you scream, “OH, GOD! The hurricane’s coming HERE! Run! RUN for your life!”

If you’re from the Atlantic Coast, you gather around him during his stand-ups and wave like dorks.

Don’t you people know anything!?!? Cantore shows up where it’s going to be the worst! That’s pretty much your last heads-up from the Weather Gods before all hell breaks loose! During Katrina, I watched the Weather Channel the day the storm was scheduled to hit and saw him in a city 20 minutes up I-12 from my hometown. I promptly burst into tears, figuring my hometown was pretty much screwed. The eye of Katrina passed over my hometown.

So, North Carolina, the next time Jim Cantore does a stand-up for The Weather Channel in your hometown or anywhere within a twenty-minute drive? Pack. No, don’t even pack; it’s too late to pack. Just get moving.
